A bit early? Remember, it's only 46 days till Christmas.
Tamara, Fred and I went to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra Christmas Show in Seattle on Saturday, November 8. It was great! Amazing music, a spectacular light show, great entertainment and the wonderful telling of the Christmas story.
My favorite was still Bart Shatto.
Last year I was deeply moved by a homeless man in the TSO audience who seemed displaced. Some of you may remember that I wrote on my blog that I was surprised by his presence and then worried about him. I didn't want him to be kicked out. Eventually I discovered that he was part of the show. He challenged me (and everyone there) with his presence and with a very moving song.
Well, he was there again this year - and he was still the favorite part of the show for me! He sang the same song, "Why can't it be Christmas every day?" and I want to ask again, "why not?"
Can We Make It Christmas Everyday?!
Bart's ballad illustrated the need for being aware of needs around us everyday. Homelessness, needs, poverty and loneliness exist year round. What if we started now and acted everyday? We have 46 days until Christmas to make a difference.
What Can We Do Now?
Donate two pairs of shoes for $5.
As Tamara wrote on her blog today, you can donate 2 pairs of shoes in 2 minutes for $5 and you will be entered to win a trip to Mexico to give someone their very first pair of shoes!
She explains that Forbes.com released the story on Friday: Soles4Souls(TM) Inc., the Shoe Charity, Launches Large Scale Charity Challenge Using Social Media. And today, bloggers, tweeters, Facebookers, and social media users around the world are uniting to spread the word about this new charity challenge:
If you, I, and 24,998 of our closest friends donate $5 before the new year chimes in, 50,000 people will be getting their very first pair of shoes!
Tomorrow: More ideas for things you can do to make it Christmas everyday. Stay tuned.
